In ClearSCADA there is a the maximum number of levels that an object can have in its full path hierarchy. This includes the $Root group (since all objects start in the $Root group) and the object itself. The maximum number of levels available in versions up to ClearSCADA 2007 are 12, meaning that an object can have a depth including up to 10 groups in the path. From ClearSCADA 2009, the maximum number of levels is increased this to 15.

When defining object names, the total length of the name of the object, including the full path hierarchy is 253 characters. Each level can consist of up to 63 characters.

Maximum Object Depth Exceeded

This error is typically seen when trying to import an sde into a group at a deeper level than the level from which it was exported. It indicates that the action can not be completed as the maximum object depth would be exceeded.

From ClearSCADA 2009 R1, the following more descriptive error message is produced.

Import could not be completed because:
The database's maximum object depth of 15 levels would be exceeded.
