Background

ClearSCADA uses the Crystal Reports runtime for the generation and display of reports. When installing ClearSCADA with Crystal Reports these common components of Crystal Reports are installed onto the system.

If the full Crystal Reports product is also installed onto the system, for the creation and development of the reports, it will install it's own version of these common components in place of those installed by ClearSCADA. This may result in version conflicts between the two pieces of software.

To prevent version conflicts on systems that require local Crystal Reports installs, matching versions of Crystal Reports and ClearSCADA must be maintained.

SAP have recently split off the Crystal Reports runtime from the full product so the above issues no longer apply, however it is still best practice to keep the runtime and full product versions in sync. This applies to ClearSCADA 2010 R3 onwards using the Crystal Reports runtime for .NET Framework 4.0.

Determining Installed Version of Crystal Reports XI Runtime

If you are unsure of exactly which version of Crystal Reports XI and associated common libraries have been installed on a computer, it may be prudent to confirm that version conflicts do not exist. Each version, release, service-pack and fix-pack of Crystal Reports installs updated builds of particular files and DLLs onto the system. The file "CRAXDRT.DLL" is one of the key DLLs and changes regularly, with each update to Crystal Reports, and can be used as a reference file for checking the release version.

This file can be found within the "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Business Objects" directory using "Find Files of Folders"
