ClearSCADA

Please read the information below prior to upgrading to ClearSCADA 2007 R1.4 for important information on changes in this version.

Upgrading from ClearSCADA 2007 R1.x

  • A compatibility issue between SafeNet Dongle Drivers and Internet Explorer Version 8 will cause a Repair or Modification of an installation to fail if Internet Explorer 8 is installed. The installer for ClearSCADA 2007 R1.4 will display a compatibility error if the following conditions are true:
    • Internet Explorer version 8 is installed, and
    • The target Operating System is Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows Server 2003, and
    • The installation type is Modify or Repair, or Upgrade and Crystal Reports XI R2 SP4 or earlier is installed.

In this case, the older ClearSCADA version should be Removed and a clean installation performed. System settings (apart from selection of installed components in the installer) will be maintained across installations.

  • Following upgrade to ClearSCADA 2007 R1.4, all existing ODBC DSNs will lose their passwords. This potentially impacts report generation using Crystal Reports and external applications that use the ODBC driver. Hence, after upgrade, use the ODBC Data Source Administrator to reinstate ODBC DSN passwords.

Upgrading from ClearSCADA 2007 R0.x

Please be aware of all the issues covered in the section "Upgrading from ClearSCADA 2007 R1.3 and earlier" in addition to the following.

  • In ClearSCADA 2007 R1.4, instances that are not linked to any template cannot contain child objects as this is an invalid configuration which was only allowed by a bug in ClearSCADA. Older versions of ClearSCADA incorrectly allowed child objects in instances without templates.
  • When databases containing instances that are not linked to any template are loaded into a ClearSCADA 2007 R1.4 server and the repair instances option is run, these instances are converted into groups. It is recommended that before upgrading to ClearSCADA 2007 R1.4, ensure that all instances are linked to their corresponding templates as once they are converted into groups, all references to them will be broken.
  • Previous versions of ClearSCADA would allow logic programs and scripts to modify properties of objects in template instances even if the property override on that property would not normally allow the change. This would then result in template instance database integrity errors. In ClearSCADA 2007 R1.4, the product has been modified such that logic programs and scripts can only change these properties if the property override allows it. This may mean that programs that worked in earlier builds will not work correctly in this version. Property overrides will need to be modified to allow the programs to continue to work properly once this new version is installed.
  • ClearSCADA 2007 R0 contained a bug, where it allowed mimic parameters to contain special characters. Mimic parameters containing special characters are inaccessible to client side scripts. ClearSCADA 2007 R1.4 has been fixed to disallow special characters in mimic parameters, ensuring that any parameter created by a user can be accessed by a script.
